Chapter 7

Friday Evening

Waking up is a slow process. I feel like I'm trying to swim to the surface of a dark, muddy lake, unsure which way is up. I eventually break free, dragging my sleep-swollen eyes open and glancing around the posh, modern decor of Jack's bedroom. I wince as I try to climb out of bed, my ass aching from the beating that I took earlier this morning. I wonder if I'll even be capable of working my shift tomorrow. I can barely stand up straight and moving is almost impossible. Once I fully sank into the paddling, it felt amazing, but this aftermath definitely isn't the kind of pain that I crave. It hurts like a motherfucker.

I glance around the room, looking for the pajamas I had on earlier; although, I'm not sure I'll be able to tolerate anything touching the skin on my butt. I don't see them anywhere, but I do find a soft, warm robe draped over a club chair by the window, so I slip into it instead. I smile as I inhale the scent permeating the robe. It smells like Jack--spicy and male--and I find that soothing.

I know that I should find Jack, but I'm really embarrassed about my meltdown. I can't believe that I let him string me up and paddle the shit out of me. Then, I practically begged him to fuck me. And the fact that the whole experience calmed me down enough that I could actually talk about what happened to my mom blows my mind. It's definitely not normal, but it centered me in a way that I've never felt before. What the hell does that say about me?

I head into the bathroom to take a piss before deciding that I really need a shower. I know that I'm postponing the inevitable, but I'm just not ready to face Jack yet. I fumble with the digital panel on the wall for a moment until I finally manage to get water to come out of the many nozzles and step into the massive glass and tile enclosure. A high-pitched whimper escapes from my throat when the stinging stream hits my butt. I find myself holding my breath as tears prick at my eyes. Bad idea. A hot shower was definitely a bad fucking idea. I try to wash my hair and body as quickly as I can, but I'm shaking from the pain by the time I step back out onto the cool bamboo flooring. My legs feel like they're about to give out beneath me, but I know that I can't sit down. I need to make it back to the bed so I can lie on my belly again.

I tug the robe back on and manage to hobble out into the bedroom where I find Jack waiting for me on the bed. His brow is creased with concern as he takes in my pained expression.

"Come here, Angel," he murmurs. "I can make it feel better."
